The Assessment and Management of Cardiovascular Risk

The Assessment and Management of Cardiovascular RiskThe previous New Zealand guidelines on the management of dyslipidaemia and mild hypertension were written in 1994 and 1996 respectively. Earlier New Zealand guidelines for the management of diabetes comprised a set of four guidelines on glycaemic control, retinal screening, microalbuminuria screening and foot screening, and were last published in 2000. These did not give guidance on the management of cardiovascular risk in people with diabetes. The current guideline integrates advice for the management of all cardiovascular risk factors in the prevention of coronary and cerebrovascular disease and has a separate section on the management of cardiovascular risk in people with diabetes. It has taken into account new evidence published since these previous guidelines.
