The focus of Berek and Hacker's for four editions has been on the application of basic and clinical science to the clinical practice of gynecologic oncology. That approach has been successful and the book has been well received. The Fifth Edition follows the format of the previous editions, with the addition of color. We will also include a fully searchable companion Website that includes an image bank.
This authoritative and comprehensive account looks at the reemergence of toxoplasmosis as a significant and potentially fatal infection. A team of acknowledged international experts review the latest diagnostic techniques, and the management of infection in pregnant women, neonates, the eye, transplant and other immunosuppressed patients, including AIDS patients. The contentious issue of the role of screening during pregnancy and in the newborn is covered in depth. The introductory chapters on biology, immunology, and epidemiology of the infection provide essential background to understanding the clinical disease. The full range of treatment strategies are presented in an easily accessible form.
The first edition of the Textbook of Diabetes and Pregnancy, was published five years ago. At that time, I mused about the uncertainty that yet another textbook on a well established topic of clinical activity and research would be successful. The record of widespread circulation of the text speaks for itself, encouraging the preparation of the second edition that is now a reality. There is a long history of collegiality among leaders in the field of diabetes and pregnancy. Reflecting this, the editor, is from Israel and he assembled a team of co-editors from three additional countries, the USA, Italy, and Spain. The more than 60 additional authors that contributed to the first edition were from equally diverse backgrounds, fields of expertise, and institutional and national affiliations. Likewise, the content of the volume was comprehensive and provided great depth in coverage of the field.
Estrogens are a group of steroid compounds, named for their importance in the oestrus cycle, and functioning as the primary female sex hormone. Estrogens are used as part of some oral contraceptives, in estrogen replacement therapy of post menopausal women, and in hormone replacement therapy for trans women. Like all steroid hormones, estrogens readily diffuse across the cell membrane; inside the cell, they interact with estrogen receptors. Additionally, estrogens have been shown to activate a G protein-coupled receptor. This book gathers leading research from around the world.
This unique book bridges the gap between evidence-based research and clinical practice. Edited by Kari Bo who has done pioneering research in this area, each chapter focuses on the evidence, from basic studies (theories or rationales for the treatment) and RCTs (appraisal of effectiveness), to the implications of these for clinical practice, and finally in recommendations on how to start, continue and progress treatment.
European Practice in Gynaecology and Obstetrics is a series of books conceived and endorsed by the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG). The topics chosen for each volume are those of significant clinical interest where treatment is changing in response to research findings and developments in practice. The volume editor and contributing authors are European specialists invited to contribute because of their expertise in their field. The books concentrate on various types of management used in European practice as well as published results. The authors present treatments for which a consensus exists and - when there is no consensus - they discuss the key elements of the controversy.
"Maternidad y Sexo" nos trae el problema de la mujer moderna:
The Pre-hospital Obstetric Emergency Training (POET) programme provides an introduction to the obstetric patient and the anatomical and physiological changes that occur during pregnancy (including interpretation of patient-held records and rapid assessment of the obstetric patient). It includes clear definitions and describes risk factors, diagnosis and pre-hospital management of significant problems that occur in both early and late pregnancy and the immediate postnatal period. These are all situations that the pre-hospital practitioner may attend.

The objective of this book is to bring together within a single volume the most up to date information about the epidemiology, diagnosis and management of postpartum hemorrhage. Whilst much has been published on the subject a truly comprehensive synthesis of this kind has never before been attempted. This volume sets out, therefore, to provide physicians with an overall clinical perspective that has hitherto been unavailable. The volume is essentially practical in orientation addressing specific issues that confront any obstetrician responsible for the management of postpartum hemorrhage. In particular it features new surgical techniques that have been shown to be markedly successful and straigh forward to apply, and which have clear advantages over emergency hysterectomy in many instances.
The use of drugs in women who are pregnant or breast feeding is a question of fine balance. Harm may befall a baby because a drug has been used, but mother and baby could suffer if a disease goes untreated. Information about the safe and effective use of drugs in pregnancy has not kept pace with the advances in other areas of therapeutics. Systematic research involving drugs in pregnancy is fraught with ethical, legal, emotional and practical difficulties and in many cases our knowledge is based on anecdote or small studies.
